Jake was one of a very few Cavaliers who kept the Alumni Association alive for seemingly decades. He was the treasurer and “guardian angel” of the old alumni association. It might be fair to say we wouldn’t have the CAA to this day without his long history of yeoman’s efforts.
R.I.P. my friend. Glad I was able to talk with you recently.
Splooie!!! / He truly loved telling stories and getting to know the younger guys. It was cool how he joined the corps with one of the neighborhood guys already marching
John and Ellyn Jacobson
John Gustav Jacobson passed away on Friday, April 24, 2020 in Chicago, Illinois after months of failing health. One month later, his wife of 60 years, Ellyn Marie Jacobson, joined him in heaven on Saturday,
May 30, 2020. John would have been 81 in August 2020, and Ellyn would have been 77 in July 2020.
As an alumni, John continued to be devoted to The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps. He played the trumpet with the corps from 1957 to 1960. He was an active member and Treasurer of the Cavalier Alumni Association; he marched with the senior corps at the Cavaliers’ 60th anniversary celebration in 2008; and he acted as a mentor and sponsor within the organization.
Ellyn was a self-declared computer geek, feminist, and she had a passion for political and environmental activism. She was a founding member of the non-profit organization, Organizing for Action.
John and Ellyn met in their teens when marching with competing Drum Corps. Throughout their life, they annually travelled the nation with their family, attending competitions to support their beloved Cavaliers.
Grateful for having shared in John and Ellyn’s lives are their three children and four grandchildren. Father and mother to Lisa Jacobson, Scott Jacobson and wife Maria Montecillo, and James Jacobson and wife
Kathy Ingraham. Grandparents to Paige Jacobson, Austin Jacobson, Amelia Jacobson, and RyanJacobson. They are also survived by their beloved cat, Frankie.
